A7 and the lens.
Lens fully extended to 20cm (!) macro distance which takes 3 full turns.
This is a very special lens that comes from a Sarabčr Finetta 99
camera,
presented at the Photokina in April 1954. The Finetta had a bayonet
mount, not compatible with other cameras, with a FFD of a bit more than
31mm, which is not so far from the 28.8mm of M39 FFD. I have presented
the camera here
(link opens in a new window). I had my camera restored, but after not
using it for some time, the shutter failed again. As the demand for
these cameras has dropped a lot and my camera and lens were not in
pristine collector's condition, I decided to keep the lens and make a
custom lens out of it. If you are interested how to proceed, I have
made a how-to page here
(link opens in a new window).
Sample pictures, 160 ISO.
You may click
on the sample image (except closest focus) for full resolution. The
full resolution image opens in a new window, so you can keep it open
for comparison. Focus is on the
satellite
dish to the right of the big solar panel near the center of the photo.
F 2.8. A hint of darker edges.
F 5.6.
F 11.
F 16.
Closest focus is 0.20m (!) from
outermost
edge of the lens. Focus on
the base of the lens.
This
is a very nice old
lens Wide open
it's fine, stopped down it's very good. Its macro capabitity is
astonishing. So you have a standard lens for street photography that
can do small objects like stickers at the same time. A feature that I
have not found on other small lenses yet. So it was worth the
transformation.
