Closest focus (at 50mm,
F8) is only 18cm from
outermost
edge of the lens. I focussed on
the program wheel of the camera,but the autofous got it slightly wrong.
The
ultra-compact SEL P1650 is an inexpensive
all-purpose alternative if you don't need full format. Wide open it is
a bit soft, especially on the wide end, at F 8 image quality is quite
good in my opinion. The lens is
extremely compact and lightweight. For simple private use it's fine and
much easier to handle than a legacy lens. At F 22 resp. 29 and 36 however it's
blurred due to diffraction. This is a problem of the APS-C sensor size,
not the lens (see comparison page). When I used it in automatic mode,
it didn't close the aperture too much, so there was no diffraction
problem.
